Three lessons on leadership |
Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited Global CEO-elect Barry Salzberg addressed students on 21 April 2011 at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business. His remarks provided perspectives through three related lessons in leadership. Specifically:
- In a flat world, leadership needs to be flat. In a global world, there need to be leaders throughout the organizational levels—more people serving as leaders than ever before.
- Leaders need to be transparent. In a socially-networked world, there are few hiding places, and transparency builds the trust needed to lead with credibility.
- In the end, leaders learn best from other leaders. Leaders at all levels must continue to pass the baton and commit to developing the leaders who will come after them and so on.
