Guidance for Deloitte people: Japan office closure and short term relocation of member firm employees

21 March 2011 —  The Deloitte Japan offices in Sendai and Morioka will reopen on 22 March, following a brief closure due to the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunami in that region.

In addition, Deloitte Japan has advised that Tohmatsu partners and employees have now been accounted for and are safe.

Given the potential for further travel and other disruptions, Deloitte partners and staff from outside of Japan have been advised to defer all non-essential travel to Japan for the immediate time to allow conditions to stabilize. Further, given the uncertainty of the current situation and potential future developments, the Global Security Office (GSO) of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited recommends that Deloitte member firms consider short-term relocation of their long-term assignees and family members residing in Japan, effective immediately. Deloitte’s Global Security Office will work directly with those member firms with known expatriates and other longer-term assignees currently in Japan to provide guidance regarding the most expeditious departure modes.

The safety of our professionals and their family members continues to be the most important priority and the office closure, travel, and temporary relocation recommendations are being closely monitored. The Global Security Office will continue to work closely with the Japanese member firm, and provide further updates on conditions in Japan.
