To accelerate progress in the movement to a green economy, private sector investors and financiers will be key stakeholders and will need to co-invest with governments. Multi-lateral banks have a history of creating innovative financing mechanisms and now national governments are creating funds to help catalyze private sector funds into renewable energy and clean technology. New funds such as the UK’s Green Investment Bank and Australia’s Clean Energy Finance Corporation are being designed to leverage private sector funds. Still other new government funds are being designed.
In this podcast, senior Deloitte leaders offer their perspectives on these issues as well as a new Deloitte report, Financing the future. We'll discuss:
- What are the optimal design features of government funds that will catalyze private investment in sustainable development?
- How can government funds help reduce risk to increase private capital flows?
- Can governments develop funds that meet public policy objectives and still deliver a commercial return?
- What are the preferred financing mechanisms to catalyze projects and unlock private investment?
- How should government funds construct their portfolio?
Guests:
-
Peter Castellas, Director of Sustainability, Climate Change & Cleantech, Deloitte Australia
- Melissa Swift, Associate Director, Sustainability and Climate Change Services, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, Limited
