In recent years, record oil prices, coupled with a reemergence of resource nationalim, have fueled the expansion of several National Oil Companies (NOCs). Subsequently, NOCs are no longer motivated to enter into equity-based contracts with International Oil Companies (IOCs) and as a result, IOCs have found it more difficult to replace reserves, and their long-term business plans have been called into question.
