Global economic outlook - 3rd quarter 2009 |
Since our last outlook, much of the public discussion of the global crisis has shifted. In past months, pundits worried about when the economy would bottom out, what policies would cause such an event to transpire, and whether government policymakers were up to the task. Today, the zeitgeist has shifted toward a discussion about the shape of the recovery, whether recovery will bring inflation, and how policymakers will unwind the massive interventions that they have undertaken.
Our latest outlook focuses on the road ahead, and continues our regional economic coverage, with global views and perspectives on the following topics:
- The nature of the recovery including the outlook for inflation, the structure of the global economy that is likely to emerge, and lessons learned from past recoveries.
- The outlook for commodity prices, an issue of central concern in the global economy prior to the start of the current crisis.
- With the current recession seemingly easing, a look at how the hard part now begins for the United States. This includes the likely economic debate that will dominate policy deliberations in the near term around the question of what the Fed should do next.
- Regional outlooks for the Eurozone, Central and Eastern Europe, United Kingdom, Japan, India, Australia, China, and Brazil.
