Global Powers of Retailing 2012Switching channels |
Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), in conjunction with STORES Media, is pleased to present the 15th annual Global Powers of Retailing. The report identifies the 250 largest retailers around the world for the past fiscal year. But the report is much more than a list - it also examines trends for retailers to consider as they plan their growth strategies, provides a global economic outlook for retail, and discusses "Q ratio" - a way of drawing inferences about the future performance of retailers by examining current financial information.
Although the economic environment in 2012 will be difficult, the long-term outlook for the global economy remains good, with China and other emerging markets offering retailers the possibility of stronger growth and new opportunities. Indeed, physical openings in new countries increased this year. However, while many retailers operate across multiple channels, a major challenge will be to understand how consumers are using and shopping across each of these channels and create a seamless, consistent, and comprehensive multi channel strategy.
