Meet Pete Mooney |
Reynold W. (Pete) Mooney is the Managing Director for the Global Life Sciences and Health Care Industry Practice of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited. He is a corporate strategy consulting professional with an extensive background in manufacturing and operations in process industries. Over the twenty-eight years of his international consulting career, Pete has assisted senior executives take advantage of growth opportunities in business segments undergoing dramatic change, transition and globalization.
For the past twenty years, Pete has focused his practice on the life sciences industries. Working with the restructuring European chemicals conglomerates in the 1990s, Pete worked with clients to develop strategies that maximized the value of their pharmaceutical and biotechnology assets by separating them from historical holding company models or leveraging them in new ways. As a result, companies like Rhône-Poulenc Rorer and Hoechst formed Aventis, DSM transformed itself from a state owned coal chemicals enterprise into a biotechnology company, Bayer formed a life sciences entity, and ICI created Zeneca, which eventually merged with Astra. Much of today's pharmaceuticals landscape was born out of this dramatic period of European restructuring.
More recently, Pete has extended his focus to the rapidly changing global healthcare arena. Highly aligned with life sciences, healthcare fits all the criteria of an industry unsustainable in its current form, which will need to transform fundamentally over the next twenty years. He works with several of the world's global health systems and has also been working extensively with several NGOs and not-for-profits in the health education and humanitarian assistance field. As with many of his clients, he is concerned about healthcare in underdeveloped economies such as Africa where, for example, he has been working with a consortium for the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital Trust on their project to build a 300 bed pediatric facility with the University of Witwatersrand.
Functionally, Mr. Mooney's career has included assisting clients with fundamental strategy development initiatives, but he has also worked extensively with his clients on issues of bankruptcy, restructuring and turnaround; privatization; global business expansion; and mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. His work has been informed by perspectives on industries in transition, which is directly relevant to Life Sciences and Health Care.
Pete is presently based in the United States, but has lived in Europe for many years and travels globally extensively. He is a dual U.S. and U.K. citizen. He has a Bachelor's of Arts in history and from Washington & Jefferson College and an M.B.A. from the Katz School, University of Pittsburgh.
