graph 1

Banking services penetration highly dependent on the speed of economic transformation. Bankarisation is well above 70% in the Czech Republic and Hungary, where the development of the banking sector was very rapid before 2008. In Poland this ratio is lower (67%) – a result of country's unique demographic situation in which 38% of population still lives in rural areas. Romania has still the lowest ratio – 40%.
