The inaugural Annual Meeting of the New Champions was presented by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Government of the People's Republic of China. The event, billed as the "Summer Davos," took place in Tianjin, China from 6-8 September 2007, and it joined together a new generation of emerging companies, known as the "New Champions," with government officials and business leaders from around the world.
The "New Champions" represent the next wave of fast-growing companies poised to fundamentally change the global competitive landscape. Also referred to as Global Growth Companies, many are from rapidly growing emerging markets, such as China and India, while some are also from the traditional, developed economies. The meeting's goal was to recognize this new class of leaders and innovators and provide them with the opportunity to work alongside already established global companies to identify fresh new ideas and innovative new technologies that will lead to further global growth.

The Deloitte leaders played a prominent role in a number of the Annual Meeting of the New Champions' sessions and events. In particular, Jerry Leamon served as a discussion leader in two of the main program's sessions: "Going Global – Finding the Right Board Structure for Growth” and "Managing Reputational Risks.” Bob Go also served as moderator for the private industry session, "Healthcare Innovation in Emerging Markets," which evaluated the way health care systems will evolve over the next decade. Finally, Deloitte was a partner or co-host for two special events at the Dalian meeting: The Technology Pioneers Reception and the 33rd China Daily CEO Roundtable on "Strategic Partnerships between Emerging Cities and Entrepreneurs."
