Panel discussions, industry partnerships, and community initiatives

Rethinking Values in the Post-Crisis World

Deloitte Global CEO Jim Quigley moderates panel discussion at DavosIn the wake of the global economic downturn, the issue of ethics and values within the business community has risen on the world agenda. Indeed, in a recent survey by the World Economic Forum, out of 130,000 global respondents, more than two-thirds believe that the current economic crisis is also a crisis of ethics and values. The question remains: Which values or lack of values led to the financial crisis and which values need to be adopted by business leaders to avoid a similar situation in the future?

Deloitte Global CEO Jim Quigley will moderate this discussion on rethinking values in the post-crisis world. Some of the questions that will be examined are:

  • What values should inform good practices for business leadership in the post-crisis world?
  • How do we translate those values into action to prevent another economic crisis?

Industry partnerships

Deloitte industry teams from Financial Services, Consumer Business, and Life Sciences and Health Care are official advisers to the Forum's Industry Partnerships program, sharing intellectual capital and contributing research to various project initiatives. Deloitte global industry leaders attending Davos participate in high-level discussions and author thought leadership pieces on current global issues, including sustainability, ethics, healthcare, and financial regulation.

Consumer Industries: Sustainable Consumption in Davos
Providing for the next generation of consumers in a sustainable manner presents an unprecedented opportunity to improve global living standards, and also an immense challenge. It has become clear in recent years that efficiency improvements and innovations at the level of production alone cannot bring about necessary changes for reaching a more sustainable society.

Deloitte is the project advisor to the Forum’s sustainable consumption initiative, Driving Sustainable Consumption (DSC). The Deloitte group has gathered input from a global team of cross-industry and sustainability experts acting as a network of senior advisors from around the global organization. The outputs have been compiled into a report entitled, "Redesigning Business Value: A Roadmap for Sustainable Consumption."

Global Health at the Forum: Addressing the Key Challenges Ahead
A team of Deloitte health care practitioners has supported the forum’s "Towards a Global Charter for Health Data" project. Since June 2009, the joint forum/Deloitte team has worked with stakeholders to document the current health data landscape, develop a project vision and core principles, and execute strategy and stakeholder sessions. The results of the work to date will be presented at the Healthcare Governors meeting.

Financial Services
As an adviser to the Financial Services industry Partnerships program, Deloitte will participate in discussions focused on the future of the global financial markets. The financial crisis of the past year raised tough questions about the future of the global economy, but it also provides insights into economic interdependencies, governance gaps, and systemic risks intrinsic to globalization. These revelations compel the global community to rethink business models, financial innovation, and risk management. Members of the Finance Services Governors meeting, including representatives from Deloitte, will seek solutions to pressing themes such as:

  • Government exit of crisis interventions
  • Shaping the global financial regulatory framework
  • Investing in positive infrastructure
  • 2010 investment "heatmap"
  • Rethinking financial services' value proposition to society

Professional Services Governors Meeting
Deloitte Global CEO Jim Quigley and other leaders will discuss the importance of responsible approaches to business activities in preventing economic crises and ensuring sustainable business growth. Specifically this year’s Professional Services Governors meeting will focus on:

  • Shaping responsible business approaches
  • Recommending solutions to global governance gaps to promote and generate ethical behaviors
