Anti-corruption: At DTT Member Firms |
-
In 2006, DTT and its member firms continue to emphasize the importance of ethics and integrity by establishing ethics implementation standards in six key areas. Through developing the Ethical Principles, appointing Ethics Officers with defined roles and responsibilities and establishing codes of conduct, DTT and its member firms have made great progress in the first two implementation standards (indicated in bold below), and continue efforts to implement those in the remaining four areas:
-
Leadership & Accountability
-
Local Policy and Standards
-
Communication/Information
-
Awareness Building/Learning
-
Reporting
-
Measurement
-
-
Communication/Information standards require clear communication from member firm CEOs and other national leaders to all partners, professionals and administrative staff to ensure that they understand the important role that ethics and integrity play in helping us deliver on commitments to clients, our people and the societies in which we work. Ethics-related policies and materials are to be easily accessible to all.
-
Awareness Building/Learning standards serve to reinforce leadership communication and embed the Ethical Principles into the way we do business. Dissemination of the Ethical Principles and the member firm Code of Conduct to all partners, professionals and administrative staff and integration of this information into all new hire/orientation programs are required. Learning standards focus on building awareness about ethics policy and processes and on "bringing to life" the importance of ethics and integrity in the way we make daily business decisions.
-
DTT introduced two valuable tools to support ethics learning—the Introduction to Ethical Principles e-learning and the Integrity Compass game. Both training tools use ethical dilemmas to raise issues, encourage discussion and help the people of DTT and its member firms understand their individual responsibility for making the best decisions possible. These tools supplement ethics learning delivered in member firms and can be customized to reflect local customs, cultures, laws and regulations.
-
Ethics Reporting standards require each member firm to have a channel in place to report ethical issues and potential misconduct. These channels reflect local requirements and have supporting processes to ensure that reports are followed up and fairly investigated. In addition, DTT member firms either have developed or are developing disciplinary policies to outline the consequences of non-compliance with ethics policies and codes of conduct.
-
Measurement to understand the effectiveness of each member firm’s ethics program is a key priority, and measurement standards encourage periodic reporting of progress and results to member firm CEOs and management boards.
-
Beginning in 2006, member firms will participate in Ethics Implementation Reviews to assess the breadth and depth of the implementation of the DTT ethics standards. In addition, member firms are encouraged to roll-out an Ethics Survey to measure employee awareness and perceptions of their ethics program and culture of integrity. This survey will allow DTT and its member firms to identify program strengths, address areas in need of improvement and benchmark progress over time.
