The Economic Empowerment of Women

In today’s global economy where there are both markets of slow growth and rapid expansion, as well as continuing risks of economic recovery and financial stability, women represent a critical piece of the solution, both as an emerging market and an under-utilized human resource. Despite past efforts over decades to advance the economic empowerment of women, progress has been slow.

Addressing this issue is more than just about “fairness”. Inequality in gender empowerment also raises serious economic issues for countries at all stages of development, and considerable business challenges for all kinds of enterprises; particularly for those that value and rely on human skills and resources.

Deloitte is an active participant in advancing the economic empowerment of women. Our network of member firms are contributing to the various public discussions and forums, including research and thought leadership, and are developing innovative talent management approaches and community investment programs with the goals of advancing women’s economic empowerment throughout the world.

Greater gender equality creates the potential for better, more informed decision-making in our societies, an educated and diverse source of talent for private and public institutions, and role models who can be an inspiration to billions of women and men worldwide.
