Deloitte France: The Winning Twinning

Showing students firsthand what it takes to succeed in business

In 2010, Deloitte France launched a pioneering initiative, “The Winning Twinning,” with Sarcelles High School, located in a suburb of Paris. The program is a first-of-its-kind formal exchange initiative between a public high school and a private company, and has received an award as a pioneer initiative within the European Employee Volunteering program.

The Winning Twinning focuses on improving achievement of underprivileged secondary school students. It provides students with a broader sense of career options, teaches business skills and techniques for the 21st-century workplace, and expands cultural and community awareness.

Students “shadow” Deloitte France professionals in the workplace, gaining a firsthand understanding of how business is conducted, and participate in workshops and cultural events led by Deloitte France volunteers. During each “shadowing” session, students observe daily work experiences, such as meeting participation, project management, and email and phone communications. The workshops and business forums are offered to students and teachers and provide both groups with an opportunity to learn about different types of jobs and careers.

Deloitte France has a five-year plan for its collaboration with Sarcelles High School, and constant improvement is built into the program management process. Each year the program results will be assessed jointly with the school administrators, teachers, and students to strengthen and expand the program. Over time, Deloitte France intends to scale the model to other schools and regions in France.
