Deloitte Belgium: Fund IsaanBuilding stronger futures through increased access to education |
Founded by Rony Wuytjens, a partner in Deloitte Belgium, Fund Isaan provides a means for an advanced education in a region of Thailand where most leave school at grade nine. Students are given the opportunity to learn computer skills and use the Internet, opening up their understanding of the world around them and preparing them for employment opportunities that require technology skills.
Fund Isaan works in close collaboration with Close the Gap and e-Learning for Kids, nonprofit organizations also founded by Deloitte employees, which supply the computer and technology infrastructure and online educational software. Together, they provide Internet-ready computer facilities with the help of Deloitte Belgium information technology and infrastructure consultants, who set up new computer classrooms on-site in Isaan. Deloitte Belgium volunteers also lead English language courses for students and teachers, using a train-the-trainer approach. By sharing their professional expertise and skills, they have a firsthand impact strengthening the educational outcomes in the region.
Since 2007, Fund Isaan’s programs have reached more than 6,500 students across 15 local schools in the Isaan region. The program also funds more than 30 full-time scholarships for high-potential students, covering all of their higher education costs, providing opportunities they otherwise would not have had. Access to higher education leads to improved livelihoods and opportunity over the long term, providing benefits not just for the students but also their families and communities.
