e-Learning for Kids and e-Learning for Life are part of one global non-profit foundation founded and led by Nick van Dam, DTTL’s Global Director for Learning, e-Learning Solutions and Technologies. In 2010, 2.3 million children in 190 countries benefited from e-Learning for Kids courses. They took over 4 million lessons in 2010.
e-Learning for Kids’ goal is to add 150 new digital courses in 2011 and reach 20 million underserved young people by 2015.
e-Learning for Kids was founded in 2004 and currently provides 205 lessons, ranging from basic math, literacy, and science skills. These courses have been translated into five different languages including Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Indian English. e-Learning for Kids looks to become the standard for digital learning, while creating a community of on-line child learners.
e-Learning for Life was launched in 2010 and focuses on delivering courseware for teens to help them prepare for successful futures by providing them with the skills needed in the 21st-century economy. It offers students courses which vary from information, media, and technology skills to more specific career skills, such as courses on global warming. Thus far, e-learning for Life introduced 10 lessons and aims for another 20 in 2011.
The Deloitte network of member firms has supported this initiative from the outset, providing multi-faceted support, including cash and in-kind donations, pro bono services, and volunteers. Deloitte member firms in Belgium, Brazil, France, India, the Netherlands, Spain, and South Africa have all contributed to the foundation’s success.
With the Deloitte network’s support, the foundation has quickly scaled its size, reaching more underserved students around the world, and its reach by expanding its courseware offerings. It is fulfilling the foundation's ambitions and Deloitte member firms’, advancing young people’s 21st-century skills-readiness globally.
