Experience
Management Accounting Solutions
Partner responsibile for the provision of management accounting solutions for a wide range of clients in a variety of industries. Services provided include the set up and establishment of accounting systems, creation of accounting controls and procedures, documentation systems and training of client staff. Management accounting services are generally longer term in nature and involve Deloitte staff working alongside client staff or being solely responsible of the financial and accounting function of the business. Major clients have included PNG Sustainable Development Program Limited, National Maritime Safety Authority, Markwarth Oil limited, University of PNG, and nine individual OTML Community Trusts.
Taxation Compliance and Advice
Responsibilities include preparation of income tax returns for companies, trusts and individuals; training levy returns; group employer returns; certificates of compliance; goods and services tax returns; and business payments tax etc. International tax planning, specialist tax advice and negotiations with Internal Revenue Commission on disputed amounts or repayment proposals.
Company Set Up
Assisting new business entrants to establish corporate entities, assisting with Investment Promotion Authority, Companies Office and Internal Revenue Commission requirements. Opening of bank accounts; set up of accounting and administration systems; acting as cheque signatories and processing of payments. Liaison with Government departments on behalf of offshore clients including lodgement of reports and returns as required.
Statutory Financial Reporting
Preparation of statutory financial statements from client books of account including the preparation of annual returns for the PNG Companies Office and preparation of related minutes and resolutions. Attending to transfers or allotment of shares, change of directors, changes of registered offices and other Companies Act requirements.
Other Relevant Experience
James is the Partner in charge of business services in the Deloitte PNG practice and has over 20 years accounting experience. James’s experience includes 14 years in the public accounting profession in both PNG and Australia and 6 years in commercial accounting roles with companies operating in diverse fields including mineral exploration, importing and wholesaling, and agricultural commodity exporting. James is a registered Public Accountant, Liquidator and Company Auditor and a Registered Tax Agent in Papua New Guinea.
