Survey Methodology

The results are based on a quantitative survey of senior executives (CXO level) of 185 companies from Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Czech Republic, Romania and Slovakia. The sample was drawn from the largest 200 companies in each country.

  • Sample size: N=185
  • Fieldwork administration: August 18th - September 14th 2011
  • Data collection method: Telephone interviews (63% of the sample) and Web interviews (37%)
  • Questionnaire: 10 single choice questions about different areas of internal and external situation of the company
  • Languages of interview: local/English.

The sample represents a good balance of companies in each country with respect to:

  • industry (23% Retail/Trade, 18% Energy & Resources, 26% Manufacturing, 33% other)
  • source of capital (49% local vs. 51% foreign capital)
  • turnover (19% - above 500 million EUR; 32% - 250-500 million EUR; and 49% - up to 250 million EUR)
  • the job role of the respondent (33% CEOs, 63% CFOs and 4% other members of the board)
  • legal status (76% are stock companies of which 32% are listed on the local stock exchange).

Index Calculation

The main composite index value is calculated as a weighted average of executives’ views on the different areas covered in our survey, namely, external situation (i.e. prospects for the whole economy and the regulatory environment), company growth and financial liquidity. It was set to 100 in the first edition (summer 2009) to serve as a reference point.
