BS 7799 is internationally accepted as a set of "best practices" for information security management, with many countries having adopted it (or in the process of adopting it) as a national standard, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, South Africa, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
In addition, BS 7799: Part 1 has been adopted by the International Standards Organization (ISO) as an ISO standard.
