We are pleased to invite you to the next Deloitte North West CIO event event to be held at the Manchester office of Deloitte on Tuesday 2 July.  The CIO initiative provides a relaxed interactive networking forum addressing topics that matter most to Senior IT Executives and guests who have joined us in the past have enjoyed participating in discussions on topical issues with Deloitte speakers and peers from other organisations.

This latest CIO event will focus on the business opportunities of ‘Big Data’ – a term used to describe today’s high-volume, high-speed, highly unstructured data environment – and the challenges of storing, managing and linking data from myriad internal and external sources. The seminar will provide delegates with the opportunity to debate one of the market’s hottest information technology topics and  hear Deloitte’s view of the real developments that are likely to impact upon companies in the technology, media and telecommunications industries.

Stephen Mercer  will be your host and will be joined by guest speaker Harvey Lewis, Director of Research for Deloitte Analytics, who will lead the discussion around Big Data and provide his experienced and practical perspective to pierce the hype surrounding the topic of Big Data and the issues that will impact companies in the future.

Harvey Lewis has a PhD in astronautics and more than 20 years’ experience of data analysis. He is responsible for data and analytics research at Deloitte in the UK.  He has authored several Deloitte Analytics reports, including a highly influential series on open data in collaboration with Professor Nigel Shadbolt, co-founder of the Open Data Institute, which has been covered in the national press and cited by the Minister of State for the Cabinet Office. Harvey is a regular commentator on the topic of big data and analytics for the national press, including the BBC, the Guardian, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal and Computer Weekly, and has had articles and blogs published in the Banker, the Post (covering the insurance industry), the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales, the Open Government Partnership, Public Service Europe and the CIO Journal.  Harvey is currently spearheading Deloitte’s applied analytics research into key business issues, and has also developed Deloitte’s annual ‘Data Nation’ survey, which measures the public’s behaviours and attitudes towards data collection and use by companies.
