This year's dinner will focus on global competitiveness following the release of Deloitte's Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index.
We will be joined by guest speaker Jim Sumner, exiting CEO of Optare. Jim has builst a strong reputation in the manufacturing industry and will share insights and experiences gained from his time in the field.
Jim has a strong track record in lean manufacturing management and international business development. Between 1999 and 2009, Jim led the transformation of Leyland Trucks, following its acquisition by PACCAR, into an acknowledged world class manufacturer which gained Queen’s Award recognition for exporting to 44 countries world-wide.
Subsequent to taking up his role as CEO on 1st June 2009, Jim has initiated and led a 3 year turnaround strategy for the business from a very challenging position. Notable achievements include consolidation of production from 3 sites onto a new modern single site, strategic alliance formed with Ashok Leyland of India, full re-financing of the business, significant export growth along with launch of a number of new products including market leading Hybrid and Electric buses. In November 2012 Optare won the SMMT’s prestigious Innovation award for its ‘fast charging’ Electric Buses.
