Executive Remuneration

Executive remuneration continues to be a key area of focus for investors, the media, politicians and even the general public. It is subject to increasing regulation and guidance from shareholders, government bodies and other external stakeholders.

Our executive remuneration team works with companies from all sectors and their remuneration committees to develop bespoke solutions which support the company’s strategic objectives and underpin its cultural values.

Issues and trends

As national economies struggle to recover from recession and household living standards generally remain squeezed, there is unprecedented scrutiny of the work of remuneration committees, which are dealing with:

  • The challenge of setting pay and incentive policies in a continuously moving business and economic environment
  • Continuing need for ongoing shareholder dialogue, leading to greater pressure to ensure that executive remuneration packages are defensible
  • Regulatory reforms to executive remuneration reporting and increased political intervention
  • The increased globalisation of business – companies increasingly compete for both talent and capital globally, and therefore need to be mindful of global trends in respect of both executive and shareholder expectations.

Within this context, companies face the challenge of developing a fair and competitive executive remuneration offering that is successful in attracting, retaining and motivating senior management to deliver the business strategy and create shareholder value.
