Elizabeth Gutteridge is a partner in Deloitte’s Forensic and Dispute Services practice. She has been appointed as an expert witness and has given oral evidence in the High Court and in international arbitration proceedings. Elizabeth has also assisted clients in private mediations. She has extensive experience in quantifying losses in a range of different contexts and regularly undertakes accounting investigations. Elizabeth has published and presented extensively, in particular on intellectual property matters. |
Experience
- Competition: Elizabeth provides financial and economic advice to companies undergoing investigation by competition authorities and has also acted as an independent expert on a landmark claim for third party damages before the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal.
- Intellectual property: Elizabeth leads Deloitte’s forensic intellectual property team and regularly provides expert and commercial advice as to the value of IP rights, advising on royalty rates and quantifying losses resulting from infringement.
- Investigations: In addition to investigating significant underpayments of royalties in licensing disputes, Elizabeth’s experience includes investigations into allegations of procurement fraud in tendering processes and the substantiation of whistleblower suspicions and regulator concerns.
- Quantum: Elizabeth advises both claimants and defendants on claims for damages resulting from alleged breach of contract and professional negligence.

Elizabeth has advised companies across a broad range of industries, in particular the life sciences, media and technology sectors.
Professional membership and qualifications
Elizabeth graduated from Christ’s College, Cambridge in 1993 and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
She holds the Professional Certificate in International IP Law from Oxford University and the University of Victoria.
She is also a member of the Licensing Executives Society and sits on the CBI’s IP committee.
