IT strategy and effectiveness: In pursuit of IT excellence- Area: Technology Integration
Background
The scale and breadth of the challenge facing IT today is truly breathtaking. Global economic conditions have taken a severe toll on firms, stringent cost control is a fact of life for most companies for the foreseeable future and IT organisations have to adapt to this leaner world. Simultaneously, companies are looking to IT to support and enable the business growth agenda. How IT meets these potentially conflicting priorities will help determine the winners and the losers, and IT effectiveness will be a key contributor to the overall performance of IT.
Key findings
This study examines how various organisations are set to meet these challenges. Based on a number of face-to-face interviews with leading IT professionals in the UK and 93 participants of the online survey, we discuss what differentiates top performing IT organisations from their peers and what capabilities underpin their performance, as well as identify key capabilities IT will need to develop in order to respond to key challenges create a competitive advantage.
