Background
While economic conditions vary the number of transactions in the marketplace, one constant is that managing the people and change elements of mergers and acquisitions can be a highly complex process
Key findings
Our research consistently shows that globally, ‘people issues’ are the most widely underestimated factor in terms of their importance in a transaction. And in Europe, this is particularly the case. Despite the growth of the European Union and the harmonisation of trade policies and legislation, employment legislation still differs substantially from country to country. This, combined with over thirty different languages spoken in the region and cultural differences, can result in a challenging people transition and consultation process for any management team.
Thankfully in our experience we’ve found that with the right measures in place, any complex integration in Europe can become more straightforward. With adequate planning and project management, dedicated resources and expertise, the complicated processes involved with the employee and human resources aspects of the transaction can be less arduous.
