Deloitte and Barclaycard win top awards with Visa CodeSure

  • Card Awards: Best Industry Innovation of the Year
  • Oscards: Winner of Business and Commercial Category

The Barclaycard Commercial Visa CodeSure card has scooped two top awards recognising the technological innovation and development behind this new product.

The Card Awards 2010 recognised the card as Best Industry Innovation of the Year, while the Oscards – which acknowledge the most significant achievements in card innovation – voted it top of the Business and Commercial Cards category.

The card ensures that cardholders have the convenience of only having to carry their corporate Barclaycard, without the need to carry a separate security token or device. Barclaycard successfully completed the pilot of the CodeSure card with Deloitte employees in December 2009. The pilot enabled 157 of these employees to access their company IT system remotely via a virtual private network (VPN), using the CodeSure credit card. The card has a keypad and LCD screen embedded into it, which allows users to enter their PIN and generate a one-time use passcode. This passcode is then authenticated, in this case, by Deloitte’s VPN.

A survey of the Deloitte employees who took part in the pilot revealed that 91 per cent believed that the card uses innovative, next generation technology.

Simon Owen, Senior Partner, who leads the Information and Technology Risk Practice at Deloitte, said: “The EMUE technology enabled Visa Corporate Barclaycard offers real benefits for card issuers based on our own experience of providing staff with one time code functionality for remote access. We estimate that we could save up to 65% per user removing the need for a separate traditional token device.”

Dennis Bauer, Managing Director, Barclaycard Commercial, comments: “Since the development of this product we have received very positive feedback from Deloitte and its employees. The product is ideal for organisations combining a standard Visa corporate card with a token to enable safe and secure virtual private network access which ultimately saves them time and money.

During this year we will be talking to other organisations to hear their views on this exciting new product.”
