Implementing the priorities of corporate sustainability is essential to create both technological and behavioural change across organisations. We can deliver across-the-board change throughout your organisation, through the identification and communication of business drivers, the Life Cycle Assessment and certification of products, and best practice waste management.
Embedding sustainability as part of everyday business brings challenges in ensuring cultural fit, delivering operational and commercial benefits; all within a framework that tackles the most pressing risks and significant opportunities in a logical manner. It also requires approaches that are relevant to different parts of your value chain, whether that’s managing your supply chain, developing a new product or undertaking a acquisition or divestment transaction. We can help you overcome these challenges as discrete projects or as part of a wider sustainability change programme.
For those organisations seeking to understand best practice approaches, we are a leading provider of advisory and assurance sustainability services that include:
Sustainability Action Plans allow the vision, objectives and targets laid out in a strategy to be turned into a coherent framework of actions. We will work with you to examine your sustainability ambitions, evaluating the actions already taken, and any issues you face in implementation. We will then draw up a coherent plan of action, developing a concise implementation plan and framework to allow clear tracking of progress made, including key actions and milestones set against specific objectives. Our team has experience developing sustainability action plans for companies across the private and public sectors; most notably for the London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG).
Strong environmental performance not only requires sound business strategy and technical solutions, but most critically, it relies upon the engagement of your staff and wider stakeholders to change their behaviour toward leaner, more resource-efficient behaviours.
Programmes that make effective use of staff behaviour are also those that focus on some of the lowest cost, fastest-acting solutions to cutting emissions and costs. Our dedicated team of organisational change experts, with outstanding experience in gaining measurable benefits from behaviour change can deliver triple benefits of carbon emissions reductions, cost savings and improved business efficiency for your organisation.
We can help you to assess the impacts of issues such as climate change, natural resource management, and responsible supply chain throughout the investment cycle. We can identify near-term financial performance risks; and assess opportunities to reduce costs (e.g. on power, water, waste management) and enhance revenue (e.g. renewable energy, new markets / products). We also analyse sensitivities within balance sheet valuations, such as environmental liabilities; and manage risks to successful execution of your investment/exit strategy. Our services cover all stages of the investment cycle. Download 'Changing values - beyond traditional environmental due diligence'. (PDF, 80kb)
Sustainable procurement involves acquisition of products and services while optimising the whole life cycle costs, benefits and social performance to meet the requirements of your customers. This approach to sustainable procurement also involves engagement with your supply chain to reduce the environmental impacts of your products, addressing the needs for sustainable production and consumption.
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) involves the environmental analysis of a product or service from cradle-to-grave. By mapping the life cycle stages of a product, LCA enables the investigation and evaluation of best practice product design, from the procurement of recycled materials, through to low impact manufacture, distribution, use and end-of-life recyclability. We provide full LCAs to ISO 14044 requirements as well as eco-labelling and product declarations.
Our team offers the services necessary to prepare companies for certification, both at product-level (ISO 14044, PAS 2050, Carbon Trust Footprint Label and Planet Positive), and business-level (CEMARS and Planet Positive).
CEMARS
Several members of our team are certified to deliver CEMARS (Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme) accreditation for businesses. CEMARS, developed by Landcare Research owned by the New Zealand Government, is the world’s first greenhouse gas certification scheme accredited to ISO 14065. It enables businesses and organisations to measure their GHG emissions in compliance with ISO 14064-1 and put in place plans to reduce emissions within their organisation and through their supply chain. It is recognized as an equivalent standard to the Carbon Trust Standard for businesses under the UK's CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC), but can also be applied globally.
Planet Positive
As Planet Positive accredited consultants, the team is able to certify businesses, events, products and activities as Planet Positive. The Planet Positive Protocol sets out rigorous and transparent standards in carbon measurement, reduction and responsible carbon offsetting. It complies with The Carbon Trust's embodied carbon footprint methodology (PAS 2050) and ISO 14044 for Life Cycle Analysis. Its operational carbon footprint methodology is based on the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) & World Resources Institute (WRI) Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol (Scopes 1, 2 and 3). In future it will include a water footprint methodology and align with the forthcoming ISO 50001, the international management standard for energy.
