Insurance market update - May 2012The Deloitte view for non-life insurers |
|
Background
In the past, after a period in which major catastrophes have occurred, capital has flown out of the global reinsurance market to meet the losses, but has subsequently been replenished by an influx of capital looking to take advantage of the re-rating that has followed. The aim of the original investors would be to exit via a possible Initial Public Offering but the recent financial crisis combined with other factors has seen dislocation in capital markets and lower valuations for listed insurers.
Key findings
In this edition, Ian Clark reviews the current trends focussing on a perceived ‘flight to scale’ by market participants and the impact on those listed insurers operating at Lloyd's and in the Bermudan market.
