Regulatory topics for 2012

At the start of 2012, with the global and eurozone financial crises still far from over, we have set out our view of twelve key regulatory and supervisory topics for the year ahead. Given the sheer volume of activity in this area it was a significant challenge to narrow our selection for 2012. The choice was made on the basis of their significance to our financial services clients in terms of their impact, the level of organisational change required to comply and the proximity of implementation deadlines.  Additionally our top 12 includes topics we consider will be priorities for regulators and international policy. Some of the topics, including bank and insurance capital have been carried forward from previous years where impending deadlines and further developments have kept them firmly at the top of the regulatory agenda. Others are new or revisited areas of focus, such as shadow banking.

We have approached our analysis from a UK perspective, noting relevant global and EU angles where appropriate. We hope our 12 topics will provide food for thought and encourage discussion and debate in this period of unprecedented regulatory change. We would very much welcome feedback on them.
