Focused on the fundamentalsA sustainable approach to cost reduction |

Background
The effects of the credit crunch, and stalling income growth from the deterioration of market conditions, are increasingly forcing financial services organisations to reconsider their cost positions. Whilst most senior executives recognise that there is scope for cost savings within their organisations, it is often harder to visualise how these savings can be realised.
Key findings
In our publication, Focused on the fundamentals: A sustainable approach to cost reduction, we share our views on how to manage cost reduction to move an organisation towards a more efficient and maintainable cost base, whilst embedding cost management disciplines and a culture of continuous improvement to ensure the savings remain.
This point of view looks at several key themes, including creating a cost effective operating model to identify, validate and deliver sustainable enterprise wide solutions, and sponsorship and leadership from the very top of an organisation. It identifies ten key conditions which, when taken together, significantly raise the probability of delivering a successful, sustainable cost reduction programme.
