With the global economy on the rebound, the shipping industry has encountered both opportunities and challenges. Despite the persistent volatility in the marketplace, the industry has managed to access capital and continue to finance its vessels and projects. Growth opportunities for the shipping industry have been fuelled by the surge in both industrialisation and urbanisation in developing countries, such as China and India, with the developed world also on the rebound. At the same time, continued tightness within the financial markets, along with the uncertainty in the capital markets, has created a new set of challenges.
