Energy, Infrastructure and Utilities

At Deloitte, our dedicated specialists in the Energy, Infrastructure and Utilities (EIU) industries provide comprehensive, integrated solutions to the sector covering oil and gas, mining, power, water and infrastructure. These solutions address the broad range of challenges facing companies as they adapt to a changing regulatory environment, to significant political, economic and market pressures, and to innovative technological development. Our in-depth expertise in this dynamic sector serves as an integral resource for a significant proportion of the world’s largest energy and infrastructure companies. The strength of our practice lies in our ability to offer clients exceptionally detailed knowledge of the industry and our global reach.

We have formed significant partnerships with many industry organisations to keep us at the forefront of the sector, and in several instances have representatives on their governing boards. These include the Energy Institute, Nuclear Industry Association, Water UK, British Wind Energy Association, Westminster Energy Forum and Underground Coal Gasification Partnership.

Research and insight

  • The Future of Utilities 2009
This event provides top executives with a platform to debate key issues and discuss the future direction of the utilities sector. This will be an important year, decisive action is required now.

Issues and trends within the industry

  • The global oil and mining sectors are experiencing a period of great volatility, uncertainty and rapid change. Finding solutions to these challenges holds the key to safeguarding global resource supplies.
  • Climate change represents a major strategic challenge for the industry, Government and economy. Alongside demanding emissions reduction targets, 35GW of new generation is required in the UK by 2020 to replace much of the ageing generation fleet, to meet increasing demand, and to satisfy renewables targets.
  • Financing industry investment is likely to be particularly challenging in the current economic climate – just at a time when the situation is becoming increasingly urgent. A joined up approach and effective partnership of Government, regulators and industry is essential to effect the necessary change.
  • Demand for skills across the energy and infrastructure sectors is intense. All stakeholders – energy companies, industry representatives, government bodies and training organisations – must get involved and work together to address the skills gap.
