Background
These annual research reports compare year-on-year responses to a host of questions on the sector landscape, strategic opportunities for growth and approaches to resource management, providing a clear insight into the priorities and perspectives of professional services leaders as they grapple with the ever-changing environment.
Key findings
The 2011 results concluded a relatively negative economic outlook - when asked to forecast the economic outlook for the year ahead, the most common response at 43% was “stagnation”.
Many firms therefore planned to reduce headcount and cut costs elsewhere, but 57% of firm leaders still expected to increase investment in marketing and business development activity. In particular, firms intended to improve their understanding of their clients’ businesses in order to better align their services to distinct client needs and deliver added value. Firms also acknowledged the importance of improving both diversity and CSR policies to strengthen their brands.
Finally, M&A activity had moved up the priority list in 2011, with more than half of firms surveyed expecting to engage in merger talks for the year ahead.
