Competition Commission investigation into the statutory audit services market in the UK

Competition Commission

  • On 21st October 2011, the Office of Fair Trading announced its referral of the statutory audit market for large UK companies to the Competition Commission (CC). The CC had two years to complete its market investigation, during which Deloitte cooperated extensively with - and submitted a number of documents to - the CC
  • On 15th October 2013, the CC published its summary findings followed by its full final report
  • On 1 April 2014, the CC’s functions transferred to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)
  • In July 2014, the CMA published its draft order on the mandatory use of competitive tender processes and Audit Committee responsibilities. It will enter into force on 1 January 2015 and apply to financial years beginning on or after that date. See Deloitte’s Governance in Brief on the CMA’s final proposals on mandatory tendering.
