Dame Sarah Storey joins Deloitte to help inspire future paralympians

24 April 2013

Britain’s joint most decorated female Paralympian, Dame Sarah Storey, will address business leaders in Yorkshire this week at the Deloitte London 2012 legacy dinner, taking place at its offices in Leeds on Thursday, 25th April.

The dinner takes place ahead of the two-day ParalympicsGB Sports Fest, which starts in Sheffield the following day and will be attended by Deloitte Parasport.

Dame Storey will be joined at the dinner by other guest speakers Craig Hunter, Chef de Mission of ParalympicsGB for London 2012, and Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire.

Staff in the Yorkshire office are among those who took part in the last 3 Deloitte Ride Across Britain events, helping to raise over £1 million for the British Paralympic Association and the firm recently extended its sponsorship of the British Paralympic Association through to Rio 2016.

Paul Trickett, London 2012 lead partner at Deloitte in Yorkshire, said: “We backed London’s bid because we believed that the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games would make a difference - our London 2012 legacy dinner is aimed at celebrating the huge success of the Games.

“London 2012 helped showcase everything that is best about the UK and with the Tour de France’s Grand Depart coming to Yorkshire next year, it’s a great opportunity for the region to share the experiences of those at the heart of the 2012 Games.

“It is set to be a fantastic occasion and one which will lead perfectly into ParalympicsGB Sports Fest where Deloitte Parasport will be signposting hundreds of people from across Yorkshire to local disability sport clubs.”

Dame Storey has given her support to ParalympicsGB Sports Fest, a free multi-sport event for disabled people at the English Institute of Sport on the 26th and 27th April, which aims to capture some of the enthusiasm built up over the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Budding athletes will be given the chance to try out many Paralympic and Winter Paralympic sports, as well as meeting multiple gold-medallists such as Jody Cundy and Hannah Cockroft.
