Health and Safety Commitment

Deloitte’s aim is to achieve standards of health and safety in the workplace that exceed legal requirements and approved Codes of Practice.

Deloitte complies with the HSG65 Health and Safety management standard and follows additional standards and best practices. We hold accreditation to the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS). The firm is committed to high levels of risk management and accident prevention, as is illustrated by its excellent safety record and the high design standards of our workplaces which take health and safety aspects into consideration.

Compliance with the principles set out in the firm’s Health and Safety policy enables Deloitte people to operate safely and with regard to the health and safety of themselves and others. To meet the specific requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and other legislation and statutory instruments, systems and procedures have been established and are implemented locally by each office.

Our policy

Deloitte’s policy consists of a signed declaration on behalf of the firm and a series of policy objectives and details of the responsibilities of partners and employees under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The Deloitte Health and Safety Policy is available to all Deloitte people through our internal intranet site. It provides general guidance on a wide range of health and safety arrangements which apply to the firm’s business activities. We update the policy and supporting practices as our business opportunities change.

Deloitte recognises its health and safety duties and so far as is reasonably practicable, will:

  • provide at all times a safe and healthy working environment and welfare facilities,
  • actively promote employees’ compliance by the allocation of resources to provide information, consultation, instruction, training and supervision,
  • carry out periodic risk assessments of the workplace, including risk identification, rectification and control,
  • ensure that accidents are investigated as appropriate, documented and reported in accordance with statutory obligations and best management practice, and remedial action taken to prevent recurrence

Our resources

The firm is responsible for the health and safety of those employed by the firm and those affected by its business. The firm has an internal team of qualified advisers including Chartered Safety Practitioners and Institution of Occupational Safety and Health Graduate Membership (GradIOSH) status holders. Specialist safety needs arising are referred to external experts as necessary.

Health and safety roles are assigned locally to communicate values and best practice standards across all of our offices. The local responsibilities for health and safety arrangements are displayed in each office to inform our people and encourage compliance with best practice, protecting Deloitte people, clients and others visiting our premises. Workplace conditions are monitored through a programme of annual internal safety audits and periodic reviews by external advisers. This enables performance targets to be agreed and evaluated, and a process of continuous improvement to be implemented.

Our welfare

The Firm’s Human Resources department manage occupational health as part of the internal WellNow programme. This dynamic programme incorporates occupational health policy, promotes healthy lifestyles, fitness and health initiatives and offers support to all Deloitte people.

Deloitte promotes personal safety and is a keen participant in the National Safety Day, ensuring its people are aware of their personal safety both at work and at leisure. The firm works with external organisations such as local Police Authorities, to engage people’s wider safety interests.

Health and safety is holistically embraced by Deloitte and plays an important part in consideration of business activities, hospitality and community investment and other partner and employee events.
