Project Management in Implementing Telematic Services

„Knowledge of the telematics environment and needs is the key to success…”

Telematic services in the area of transport are based on the combination of various components from various suppliers who are able to suitably communicate with each other and provide the requested services. Implementation in such scope and complexity must be realised through a project. One successful implementation precondition is a well-structured project with all inter-relationships determined.

Deloitte offers methodical guidance for the preparation of telematic services, including the structuring and assessment of the purpose, as well as user benefits from both the state/public sphere and the private sphere.

„… supported by a verified and standardised project methodology…”

Our project management is based on the project management methodical procedure specified in the Deloitte Project Management Methodology Version 4 standard (hereinafter the “PMM4”), which is based on the principles of the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI). The PMM4 methodology uses a combination of process and material approaches to project management.

„… well-structured process approach…”

The main processes within the PMM4 are divided into five basic phases: Initiate, Plan, Execute, Control and Close. The phases may be repeated depending on project requirements.

„… a modular structure which enables adaptation according to specific needs…”

The work procedure pursuant to the PMM4 is generalised in 10 modules which can be used in individual project phases, even repeatedly: Organisation, Logistics, Communication, Procurement, Work Plan, Financials, Risks/Issues, Scope/Change, and Quality and Integration.

„… a set of tools facilitating and formalising mutual communication…”

PMM4 provides a range of “accelerators” to facilitate project work, including tools, detailed procedures, and templates.

„… including the approach to global information.”

The project team can access our global information database, the Knowledge Exchange, which is a dynamic, web-accessible portal including information from global sources of Deloitte, projects, methods, research, competencies, sectors, outputs, approved procedures and other information sources, e.g. Meta Group and Gartner Group news.
