Deloitte Cyprus celebrated its 50th Anniversary

Nicosia, 10 September 2008 - With a very special event held at the Famagousta Gate Deloitte celebrated its 50 years of successful presence in Cyprus and honoured its two founders, Mr. Christodoulos Chrysanthou and Mr. Michalakis Christoforou.

Amongst the nearly 3000 people who honoured Deloitte Cyprus with their presence were Cyprus government officials, the Mayor of Nicosia, clients, business associates, senior Deloitte partners from other DTT member firms and Deloitte global, media people and Deloitte Cyprus partners, staff and friends.

In his welcoming speech, Christis M. Christoforou, Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte Cyprus, pointed out that the great attendance of clients and other guests reflects the recognition of Deloitte by the business community in Cyprus as one of the leading quality professional services firms on the island. Mr. Christoforou also focused on the importance of the success in terms of attendance of senior Deloitte partners from other countries whom he thanked for accepting our invitation.

"A milestone in our history was no doubt the integration in 2002 with Chrysanthou & Christoforou, the Andersen representative firm in Cyprus which enhanced our presence on the island by significantly increasing our numbers and by helping us even further to establish Deloitte as one of the leading quality firms on the island. We continue relentlessly to have a passion for excellence. Our global and local vision, to become the standard of excellence, continues to form the basis of our strategy. Looking at the future I could not be more than excited leading such a great legacy but at the same time with such a great potential", Mr. Christoforou added.

Alberto Terol, Chief Executive for Europe, the Middle East and Africa speaking on behalf of the global organisation congratulated the Cyprus practice for its 50th anniversary. "We are extremely proud of our firm in Cyprus for what they have achieved all these years and that have established Deloitte as one of the dominant professional services firms on the island."

Honouring Mr. Christodoulos Chrysanthou and Mr. Michalakis Christoforou with honourary plaques, Mr. Christis M. Christoforou added: "As I stand here today, looking at the past 50 years of what has been achieved I could not be more proud of our founders and long time leaders. We owe our beginning to two ambitious men who on 1st of January 1958 founded the firm of Chrysanthou & Christoforou, Christodoulos Chrysanthou and Michalakis Christoforou. Those of you who know Christodoulos and Michalakis, will agree with me in describing them as two of the most respected professionals in Cyprus with the highest standards of Ethos and Integrity and the strongest passion for Quality". The two founders of Deloitte in Cyprus were also honoured by the Cyprus Institute of Certified Public Accountants for their contribution to the accounting profession in Cyprus.
