Health care spending in China is expected to near $890 billion a year by 2017, growing by an average rate of 13.8 percent annually in local currency terms from 2013-2017. Total spending is forecast to reach the equivalent of 5.9 percent of GDP by 2017, up from an estimated 5.3 percent in 2012. The central government spent an additional $125 billion in health care expenses above and beyond its planned expenditures over the past three years.
