Our philosophy

Commitment to inclusive growth and development

Deloitte’s journey in China began in 1917 when we opened our first office in Shanghai serving Chinese and foreign companies. Over the past ninety four years, we have continued to grow, help our clients to grow, and supported the quality and sustainable development of the local accounting profession. In 2004, we entered a new era of growth and development when Deloitte’s global organisation committed to invest US$150 million in our vision and five year plan for the growth and development of Deloitte China. This is the largest investment that Deloitte has ever made in a single country. Since then, we have grown our network to 16 offices across the Mainland, Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR and more than doubled our headcount to nearly 10,000 people. Major milestones include our mergers in 2005 with two of China’s top local accounting firms which, beyond the expansion of our firm in size, also contributed to the personal and professional growth of all our people.

Learning to serve and serving to learn

Throughout the year we provide ample opportunities for our people to demonstrate one spirit which we believe is so true: learning to serve and serving to learn (note). These opportunities are conducted in diverse forms, such as visits to the underprivileged and the elderly, fundraising for charity, mentoring teenagers or university students and supporting the needy in disaster relief projects. Not only have we made a positive difference to the communities with whom we have worked, we have also provided Deloitte China colleagues with many valuable learning experiences which are enriching the personal and professional growth and development of all our people.

Note: This is actually the mission of one of our community service partners, Lingnan University's Office of Service Learning, with whom we are working on the 3-Year Yunnan Village Adoption Programme.
