Budget highlights

On March 21, 2013, Yukon Premier and Finance Minister Darrell Pasloski tabled Yukon’s 2013-2014 budget. Here are some of the highlights:

  • A surplus of $73 million is projected for 2013-2014
  • The Yukon economy is becoming less dependent upon government spending with the public sector’s contributions to GDP decreasing from 39% to 30% while the mining and oil and gas sector has increased to 23% of GDP over the last ten years
  • The current unemployment rate is 6.6%
  • No new taxes or tax changes are introduced
  • Yukon continues to have no general territorial sales tax and no payroll taxes
