Measuring Up: Benchmarking Canada's competitiveness in a low-carbon world

How Canada stacks up in a study of G8 countries

Deloitte partnered with National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE) to develop Measuring Up: Benchmarking Canada's competitiveness in a low-carbon world. This report is the first of seven to be released as part of the Climate Prosperity Series over a two-year period. The series will focus on the economic risks and opportunities of climate change.

In Measuring Up you will find the first ever Low-Carbon Performance Index (LCPI) which assesses where Canada measures against the other G8 countries. The LCPI ranks Canada and the G8 against five critical low-carbon performance categories with 15 meaningful indicators. "The indicators in the index are comparable across all countries, and are rigorous in their methodology,” says Valerie Chort leader of Deloitte Canada’s Sustainability and Climate Change practice. “The index reflects the view that prosperity in a low-carbon economy will result from success across a spectrum of performance areas.”

“By bringing these performance areas together under one umbrella, the LCPI provides a starting point for understanding Canada's low-carbon growth opportunities," says Chort. This assessment will also help policy-makers in government, industry and the environmental community make the right choices for Canada as the world transitions to a low-carbon economy.

Read Measuring Up to learn not only how to manage climate change, but how to prosper through it.
