Barry Reiter is chair of the Bennett Jones’s Technology, Media and Entertainment (TME) Group and chair of the firm's Corporate Governance and Director Protection Group. His practice focuses on corporate finance, development and governance.
Barry has experience in all aspects of TME law, including the protection of intellectual property rights, representation of start-up, growth and mature companies and private equity sources, international distribution arrangements, strategic alliances, partnerships and joint ventures, licensing, private and public financings, stock exchange listings, mergers and acquisitions, and restructurings.
Barry regularly advises boards, directors and management on governance issues. He is an experienced director and has chaired boards and a variety of board committees. Current board roles include: Avotus Corporation, HKMB HUB International (Advisory Board), MOSAID Technologies Incorporated, Pharos Life Corporation, Craig Wireless Systems Ltd., Spatial View Inc. and Kneebone Inc. He is also a member of the ICD Blue Ribbon Commission on the Governance of Executive Compensation in Canada.
Barry holds a BA from York University, an LLB from Osgood Hall Law School, and a Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) degree from Wadham College at Oxford University. Formerly a law professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto (1974-1982), Barry has published books and articles on contracts, corporate governance, advisory boards, joint ventures, real estate and the legal process. He edited Directors’ Duties in Canada, 4th Edition, published by CCH Canadian Limited in 2009. Barry writes a monthly column on corporate governance for Lexpert magazine.
