Holiday survey 2009

The results are in

We have released the results of our 2009 Canadian holiday shopping survey. This annual survey offers a real and in-depth look into the shopping and spending intentions of consumers across Canada. Following the implications of the recession, now more than ever, some consumers are being vigilant with their holiday spending. However, this survey shows a brighter outlook than some would have expected. It appears most Canadians believe the worst is behind them.

Highlights from this year’s survey include:

  • More than 40% of Canadians surveyed plan to spend less during the 2009 holiday season than they did last year
  • When it comes to gift selection, more than 60% of shoppers are deferring the decision to their recipients, and purchasing gift cards instead. People are choosing to shift away from durable goods to experience-based gifts
  • Social media will likely be used by the younger demographic to research gift ideas, search for discounts, and seek out product reviews.
