The current budget crises faced by all levels of government today are as urgent and provocative a call to action as any for government to examine how they get things done. Governments have had to quickly develop immediate fixes, but over the medium and long term, what will be required for more sustainable solutions?

A case for innovation

With most governments expecting large budget shortfalls in 2010, they will need to find new and more efficient ways to deliver better value for taxpayers’ money. Government regulators will need to be much more cognizant of what is going on in the marketplace so they can react to trends, and find ways to share information to minimize reaction times. When change happens, it tends to be either in response to a crisis or because an individual champions a specific cause.

Deloitte, in association with the Institute of Public Administration of Canada (IPAC), invites you to join your peers at the 4th annual Government Performance Forum. Designed to bring senior government executives together to learn, discuss and gain insights into how some leaders from across Canada and around the world are addressing the challenges of budget shortfalls and getting things done.

This morning and noon-hour event promises an engaging, insightful – even humorous – discussion on how to increase the odds of translating policy ideas into successful initiatives. Join the debate with an esteemed line up of speakers including William (Bill) Eggers; Gerard Cossette, Associate Deputy Minister, DFAIT (Passport Canada story of innovation); Dr. Alison Brooks, Research Director Public Sector, IDC.
