Meet David Eason

CEO of Berkeley Payment Solutions

August '09 spotlight - David EasonWhen did you work for Deloitte, and what did you do?
I worked in Toronto as a Senior Consultant for the Strategy & Operations group from 1999 to 2002.

What was the highlight of your time with Deloitte?
The highlight of my time at Deloitte was leading an engagement for the small business team at one of the big banks.  Not only was the project a tremendous success, but I have maintained a friendship with then a key member of the client’s team, Jeff Moir.

Which organization did you join after you left Deloitte?
I was an independent consultant for American Express for three years.

What do you do now?
I am the CEO of Berkeley Payment Solutions.  We deliver innovative Visa prepaid incentive card programs and services to companies across North America.

What’s the best part of your current job?
I love the fact that Berkeley works with leading North American financial institutions to create a relatively new, innovative and thriving industry.  I have also enjoyed building a dynamic and client-focused team that consistently delivers fantastic products to our clients and partners.

What’s the secret of your success?
When developing products and delivering services, I ensure my team is always focused on the needs of both our clients and partners.  If I didn’t think it to be a “no brainier” to purchase Berkeley’s services as the client, we should not be developing the product and selling it.

Why did you join the Toronto Consulting Alumni group?
While I worked at Deloitte I made some great friendships — and even met my future wife.  The Toronto Consulting Alumni group makes it easy for me to stay connected to these individuals and meet new alumni. I understand the caliber of Deloitte alumni, so I try to find opportunities to work with them whenever possible.  And alumni gatherings allow me to network and reconnect with a talented group of individuals with whom I would feel very comfortable doing business.

What book are you currently reading?
I’m reading Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand as well as a number of business books, including Building Competitive Advantage (Smith) and Top Grading (Smart).

What’s on your iPod?
I love Jack Johnson, so all of his CDs are on my iPod.  To avoid being too mainstream, I have recently started to listen to new groups such as the Kings of Leon, MGMT, Metric and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
