Meet Fahd ButtChief Thinker Officer, Thinkpanda |
When did you work for Deloitte, and what did you do?
I was with Deloitte from August 2008 until April 2009. I worked as a Business Technology Analyst in the systems development group, though all three of my projects were in tech strategy.
What was the highlight of your time with Deloitte?
Getting to work with some really smart folks on the an IT strategy project for a major telecom company. My team was from all over – New York, Atlanta, Chicago – and it was a great experience working with such a diverse team and a complex organizational problem. It also made for some interesting discussions given the project was during the U.S. presidential elections.
Which organization did you join after you left Deloitte?
I left Deloitte to continue on a design project from the end of my university days and turn it into a web start-up called Thinkpanda. Thinkpanda is an online productivity dashboard for people who want to share their research and ideas within a small group or with the whole world. It can be used by students, professors, researchers and project groups of any size. It’s live right now and it’s free to sign up. You can also follow us on Twitter at http://twitter.com/pandathinks.
What do you do now?
I'm the CTO, so I’m leading the vision of the product, prioritizing the requirements and building everything from the back end to the logic, the front-end interactions and the user interface design.
What’s the best part of your current job?
The best part of my job is to have created something from nothing, to be involved in every part of the product technically and strategically, and to have the challenge of making people love your brand and product.
What’s the secret of your success?
I wouldn’t say I have succeeded – that’s something we’ll find out in the next year. But I would say that the secret (if you succeed) is to not worry about succeeding or failing. Just accept the fact that it’s a journey and you’re learning regardless of the outcome.
Why did you join the Toronto Consulting Alumni group?
I think it’s a great way to keep in touch with the people at Deloitte. You never know where the future takes anyone, and it’s good to keep in contact.
What book are you currently reading?
I started War and Peace, but I really don’t know how I’ll find the time to finish it — it’s huge! I've finished reading several books to help me on the start-up journey: The Beermat Entrepreneur, The Art of the Start and The Smashing Book.
What’s on your iPod?
Chopin, Yann Tiersen and an eclectic mix of indie artists no one has heard of.
