2008: A memorable year

The year 2008 is already coming to a close, and it was certainly an event-filled year. The first thing that comes to mind is the 150 th anniversary celebration, which was an opportunity to celebrate our origins and our people. The firm’s history would not have been the same without you — our Alumni. Your efforts contributed to our century and a half of excellence and innovation.
As leaders of the Alumni committee, we are especially proud to have celebrated with you at the 2008 Reunion event that took place December 2, 2008 under the “Deloitte 150 th anniversary” theme. More than 450 of you attended this event to reunite with former colleagues, make new acquaintances, and discuss your personal and professional projects.
The year 2008 was also marked by several socially responsible initiatives at Deloitte, one of which we are presenting here today: an electronic version of the “The Network” newsletter. In our constant commitment to apply the same principles we so enthusiastically propose to clients, we will now be sending our newsletter to more than 2,300 Alumni via email. Not only does this newsletter inform you about the firm’s national and local news, it sheds light on the latest market trends.
As we look back at 2008, we cannot ignore the major changes required by the conversion to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). We’ll address these changes in this edition, as we will the economic disruption that marked this past year.
Finally, we would like to wish all our Alumni much success in the new year.
