Deloitte awarded “best overall workplace” in Alberta

Alberta Venture magazine recognizes the firm’s commitment to employees

Deloitte has been named Alberta’s 2009 Best Overall Workplace, as well as Best Workplace for Working Parents, by Alberta Venture magazine. “Winning Overall Best Employer for companies with more than 750 employees is a real triumph for the 825 people who go to work every day in Deloitte’s offices in Alberta,” says Edmonton managing partner Duncan Sinclair. He recognizes the honour it is to be named the best overall, particularly among such a high calibre of nominees.

“This demonstrates the strength of our values and our culture, and how we translate these into the day-to-day experiences that every member of Deloitte’s Alberta team shares. It attests to what all of us know: that Deloitte, whether in Calgary, Edmonton or any Deloitte office worldwide, has a culture that supports a great place for great people to accomplish great achievements — both for our clients and for each other.”

Deloitte’s flexible work environment, comprehensive benefits, and training and development practices are just a few of the factors that contributed to Deloitte taking top spot in two of the 12 categories in the Alberta’s Best Workplaces program. By providing these types of programs, the firm demonstrates a commitment to its people. “We’re only as strong as the people we employ,” explains talent advisor Corinne Warwaruk, who adds that creating a collaborative and supportive environment is necessary to attract and retain the right people.

Being able to earn his Chartered Business Evaluator accreditation while doing his day-to-day job wins high marks from Financial Advisory manager Jason Ding. “I’ve seen a lot of flexibility and a lot of opportunity for me to do what it is I want to do, like being involved in corporate finance, in technology, and having time outside to do volunteer work,” he says.

Alberta Venture is a monthly publication that covers business news in Alberta and is known for its various rankings designed to recognize the province’s top performers.
