Deloitte in B.C. wins two best employer awards

BCBusiness magazine and the B.C. government recognize Deloitte as a workplace leader

For the fourth year running, Deloitte’s Vancouver office has been ranked among B.C.’s “Best Companies to Work For.” The office’s fourth-place ranking in 2007 is a great leap from its 2004 position at 25th on the list. “I am extremely pleased and excited to see our ranking for 2007. It’s no secret that the environment for top talent continues to be increasingly competitive,” says Cal Buss, Deloitte’s managing partner in Vancouver. “The acknowledgement by our people that we are truly a top-ranked workplace is extremely gratifying. It demonstrates that we are moving in the right direction as we continue to strive to make Deloitte a great place to do great work.”

The award, given by BCBusiness magazine, recognizes companies that demonstrate superior management practices and whose employees feel they have an exceptional working environment. In partnership with Vancouver-based Caliber Leadership Systems Inc., the BCBusiness survey measures four key areas of talent management: talent systems, employee engagement, leadership dynamics and organizational culture.

Additionally, Deloitte’s offices in Langley, Prince George and Vancouver received the WorkLife BC Award of Excellence — the highest honour in its category — from the B.C. Ministry of Children and Family Development. The award recognizes B.C. employers who have developed workplaces that support their employees in balancing commitments to work and family. WorkLife BC advocates a five-point model of a family-friendly workplace that supports flexibility, supportive supervisors and managers, a family-friendly culture, alternative work arrangements and recognition of childcare and eldercare issues.

These awards are part of a series of external recognitions Deloitte has received for its commitment to its people. Nationally, Deloitte is one of the 50 Best Companies to Work for in Canada for 2008, according to a study by Hewitt Associates. Deloitte was also selected by Maclean’s magazine as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2008 in a study conducted by MediaCorp. “This public recognition further validates that we have focused on the right areas to help attract and retain the best people, and that we are well on our way to becoming the standard of excellence for talent,” says Larry Scott, Deloitte’s managing partner responsible for Strategy and Human Resources.
