Customs Flash (22/02/2013)Entry into force of EU FTAs with Colombia, Peru and Central America; talks launched for a EU – US FTA |

On 11 December 2012, the European Parliament Plenary voted to ratify the two last Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) signed by the European Union:
- the FTA with Colombia and Peru, and
- the first region-to-region Agreement signed with Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama).
The negotiations for both FTAs were concluded in 2011 and the signature of the texts took place in June 2012. Since then the ratification process has been ongoing. With the European Parliament’s green light, the ratification within the European institutions is concluded. The only remaining procedures depend on the Latin American partners to take final steps towards ratification in their national legislative bodies.
